Founded in 1967
by the firm’s Principal Solicitor, Mr. Spencer Lyons Ferrier, and merged with E.L. Sachs & Co in 1984.
The firm has over the years concentrated on four principal areas of practice and expertise in addition to general legal advice on personal affairs, being commercial litigation, aviation law advisory, property transactions including the purchase and sale of real estate, and the management of Wills and Estates.
The eminent Mr. Edward L. Sachs received his legal training and practiced as a lawyer in Austria prior to WWII where his father served for the State of Austria in the League of Nations. With the rise of the Nazi Regime, Mr. Sachs migrated to Australia with his family and enlisted in the Australian Army, seeing active duty in the Pacific.
After his discharge in 1945, he studied again in law and commenced practice in Sydney with a concentration in personal injury litigation, finance and mortgage lending.
Mr. Spencer L. Ferrier commenced articles with Mr. Sachs as a young man in 1960 and upon admission to the roll of solicitors in 1965, developed with his Master Solicitor the finance, business and aviation practice of the firm which has since included extensive international work in the aviation world.
In 1967, Mr. Ferrier founded Ferrier & Associates, which combined the practices of the two firms. Mr. Sachs continued to work with the combined practices until his death in the mid-1980s.
Ferrier & Associates has since provided continuous service to clients in all walks of Australian life.
This has included the assistance of people coming to Australia from Europe in the early post-WWII years, aiding those who were injured in the early National Work of the Snowy Mountains Scheme and thereafter general business, investment, taxation and commercial advice.
Litigation has always been a major part of the expertise of the firm. Our experience has spread across all areas of industrial, commercial, rural, family and personal life in many complex and difficult cases, with the highest levels of success. We are also experienced in dealing on behalf of clients outside of Australia with many contacts in foreign jurisdictions, and the management of litigation in foreign Courts extending back to the 1950s.
The Firm has maintained a steady practice in commercial and corporate advisory, with a long and extensive history in taxation law, although no longer the primary specialisation of the Firm.
Our firm also has a proud history of members finding high levels of success in the profession as barristers, where several Queen’s Counsel, Senior Counsel and Barristers have made high reputations in those professions after time with our firm. We also have been very pleased to see some of our former members enter the academic world and be successful in that field.
